Eye-Tracking Metrics Show Novice vs. Expert Focus in Prosthodontic Evaluations

Posted: August 21, 2025 / Source: Pubmed Database

A study compared eye-tracking metrics in tooth preparation assessments between novice dental students and expert dentists. Novices had longer fixation durations, more frequent fixations, and delayed time to first fixation compared to experts. Both groups focused on the buccal wall and finishing line, with novices showing less efficient visual processing skills. The findings suggest that experience influences gaze behavior in prosthodontic assessments, highlighting the need to enhance students' visual processing skills for better clinical preparation.
