Dental Prosthetic Treatments Boost Chewing in Elderly Japanese: Study

Posted: August 23, 2025 / Source: Pubmed Database

A cross-sectional study in Japan found that dental visits were associated with better chewing ability in older adults through dental prosthetic treatments. Data from 8,441 respondents aged ≥ 65 revealed that 56.3% with recent dental visits reported good chewing ability, compared to 49.9% without visits. Dental prosthetic treatments accounted for 59.0% of the association between dental visits and chewing ability. While causality couldn't be determined, the study suggests a positive link between dental visits, prosthetic treatments, and chewing ability.
